The stock market is more accessible than ever. With mobile trading apps, online platforms and social media, anyone can follow market movements and place trades within minutes.
But easy access also makes financial awareness, informed decision-making and risk management more important.
As part of Project Jagrook, the Securities and Exchange Board of India (SEBI) has introduced requirements for stock brokers to display specified investor-awareness messages on their websites and trading applications.
So, what does Project Jagrook mean for traders?
Let’s understand it simply.
What Is Project Jagrook?
Project Jagrook is part of SEBI’s broader efforts to improve investor education, awareness and responsible participation in India’s securities market.
Its core message is simple:
Before You Trade, Understand the Risks.
A trading app gives investors access to market information and order execution, but access alone does not mean that a person understands market risks.
Project Jagrook aims to bring important investor-awareness information closer to investors at the platforms where they participate in the securities market.
What Has SEBI Announced?
Under its October 1, 2026 circular, SEBI directed stock brokers to display specified investor-awareness messages along with existing risk disclosures on their websites and trading applications.
The implementation is being introduced in phases.
October 5–31, 2026
Stock brokers are required to display the specified investor-awareness messages and existing risk disclosures on their websites.
During this transition period, displaying the specified investor-awareness messages on trading applications is voluntary.
From November 1, 2026
The investor-awareness messages will be required on the landing page of stock broker websites.
For trading applications, the specified investor-awareness messages and existing risk disclosures will be displayed on the landing page on alternate days.
SEBI may modify the messages from time to time.

Why Does Project Jagrook Matter?
For many beginners, trading can look like:
Open App → Check Chart → Place Order
But responsible trading involves much more.
Traders should understand:
- Market volatility
- Position sizing
- Stop-loss management
- Leverage and derivatives risk
- Capital management
- Trading psychology
- Reliable sources of market information
A trading app provides the tools to participate in the market. It does not replace the knowledge needed to use those tools responsibly.
Trading Does Not Mean Guaranteed Returns
There are no guaranteed returns in the securities market.
Be cautious of claims such as:
“Guaranteed Profit”
“100% Accurate Calls”
“Double Your Money Quickly”
“No-Loss Strategy”
Rather than searching for guaranteed profits, traders can focus on developing a structured process:
Analysis → Setup → Entry → Risk Management → Exit → Review
Every trade carries risk. Understanding and managing that risk is an important part of responsible trading.
Be Careful With Social Media Stock Tips
Market information is everywhere — YouTube, Instagram, Telegram, WhatsApp, X and online communities.
Some content can be educational, but not every person providing a stock tip is qualified or authorised to provide investment advice.
Before acting on any tip, ask:
Who is providing this information?
Is the source reliable?
Is the person or entity appropriately registered where required?
Am I making my own informed decision?
Developing the ability to analyse market information independently can help traders make more informed decisions instead of relying solely on unsolicited tips.
Trading Is More Than Predicting Price
Trading is not simply about predicting whether a stock will rise or fall.
A structured approach can involve:
Analysis → Entry → Risk Management → Exit → Review
Traders may also face psychological challenges such as:
- Fear
- Greed
- FOMO
- Overconfidence
- Revenge trading
- Impatience
A trading plan and trading journal can help traders review their decisions and identify repeated mistakes.
